From Sheffield LLB, QMUL LLM to the Bar: The Inspiring Journey of Mashal Sahir

12 October, 2026

Some student journeys stay with you forever. Mashal Sahir's is one of them.

Earlier this month, we received a message that reminded us exactly why we do what we do:

"Wanted to share this with you because honestly, this wouldn't have been possible without you. You were there through so much, from handling my visas to helping me through some of the biggest transitions in my life. I'll always be grateful for you."

Alongside those words, Mashal shared a link to a feature published by Queen Mary University of London's Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), spotlighting her multidisciplinary career across legal practice, creative writing, and human rights advocacy. (Link for QMUL Website)

We couldn't be prouder.

The FM Consultants Journey: Every Step of the Way

Mashal came to us as a student after her A Levels with ambition and talent in equal measure. Her path through UK legal education was one we had the privilege of guiding at every stage:

  • LLB — University of Sheffield: Her undergraduate foundation in law, where we assisted with admissions and visa processing for her first big move to the UK.
  • LLM — Queen Mary University of London : Mashal again contacted for her Master of Laws in Human Rights Law, which she completed in 2015 with Merit. Her time at QMUL shaped the analytical rigor and global outlook she credits throughout her career.
  • Bar at Law: We continued supporting her through pupillage-stage guidance for admission and visa handling as she qualified as a barrister.

Each transition — undergraduate to postgraduate, student to qualified legal professional — came with its own challenges: applications, CAS letters, visa files, timelines. Handling those details so our students can focus on their studies is exactly what FM Consultants is here for.

Where Is Mashal Now?

Her QMUL alumni feature paints the picture of a truly multidimensional career:

  • Managing Partner, M Square Legal Solutions — leading a specialist team of 15 legal practitioners.
  • Chairperson, Environmental & Human Rights Affairs Committee, Lahore Bar Association (2023–2024).
  • Internationally recognised poet — her second collection, Atman – A Journey to Self, was translated into Punjabi (Gurmukhi) and featured at the 10th Amritsar Literature Festival. Her debut, Love – The Unspoken Language, is permanently recorded in the Library of Congress.
  • Contributing writer for over a decade in The Express Tribune and Daily Times on human rights, gender, and social justice.

Her poetry has earned praise from figures including Salima Hashmi — daughter of the legendary Faiz Ahmed Faiz — and the late Intizar Hussain, a Man Booker International Prize finalist.

From a first-time visa applicant in Pakistan to a barrister, law firm Managing Partner, and internationally published poet — Mashal embodies what's possible with the right guidance and relentless determination.

Thinking of Studying Law in the UK?

Mashal's story shows that the UK remains one of the most powerful destinations for aspiring lawyers from Pakistan. Whether it's an LLB, LLM, or the Bar at Law, the route is well-established — but the process demands careful planning, accurate documentation, and reliable visa support.

That's where we come in. At FM Consultants, we've guided hundreds of students through every stage:

  • University and course selection (including Russell Group institutions like Sheffield and Queen Mary)
  • Application and personal statement support
  • CAS and visa file preparation
  • Pre-departure and settlement guidance
